Terms of use

Last updated 24 October 2026

These terms apply to the Issei Roots website and waitlist before launch. Ordering records will have its own terms, shown before you pay.

About Issei Roots

Issei Roots is operated by nagiflow LLC. We plan to help descendants of Japanese emigrants obtain and understand their ancestors’ family registers (koseki). We have not started taking orders.

What the site says about the future service, timings and prices is our current plan and may change. We may launch later than expected, change the service, or not launch.

Licensed scriveners

In Japan, preparing official requests for a fee is reserved for licensed scriveners (行政書士). When we open, an independent licensed scrivener will prepare and submit requests under their own agreement with you and charge their own fee. Issei Roots does not provide scrivener services.

The waitlist

  • Use your own, valid email address. One signup per person.
  • You can leave at any time with the link in our emails; this deletes your signup and your code.

Your waitlist code

  • Worth $10 (USD) off the Issei Roots part of your first records request.
  • One code per email address. Valid from the day we open until 6 months later.
  • It cannot be exchanged for cash, combined with other offers, or used on the licensed scrivener’s fee.
  • Codes obtained with automated, bulk or false signups are void.

Acceptable use

Do not use the site unlawfully, sign up others without their permission, send automated or bulk requests, or try to interfere with or gain unauthorized access to the site.

Content

The site’s text, design and images belong to nagiflow LLC or its licensors. Sample records on the site use invented names and are illustrations.

Liability

We provide the site as it is and do our best to keep it accurate and available. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from the site or the waitlist. Nothing in these terms limits liability for intent or gross negligence, or any rights you have under consumer protection law, including Japan’s Consumer Contract Act.

Changes

We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version. Changes do not reduce the value of a code you already hold.

Law and courts

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. The Tokyo District Court has exclusive jurisdiction in the first instance, without affecting mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live.
